The most crippling thing you can do in your web design business is not take action out of fear.

Fear of the unknown.

Fear of making the wrong decision.

Fear of not being liked.

Fear of making mistakes. Getting it wrong. Fucking it up.

Fear of playing big.

Fear of being selfish.

Fear of being judged.

Fear of SUCCESS even!

When you’re on the verge of playing big and stepping into your genius you start comparing yourself to others. You spend hours online pouring over every other designer’s website, their blog, their programs… you sign up to their newsletters, you watch their videos, you read their eBooks, and whilst it’s great to ‘research’ — the real you starts to slowly become discouraged.

And overwhelmed.

And you feel like shit.

You retreat back inside your shell and tell yourself a story that goes something like:

“Oh they’re so good, why would anyone buy from me when they’re doing what I want to do… I don’t know what I’m talking about… why would anyone listen? I’ll just play it safe and stay within my comfort zone and one day I’ll know enough to be like them.”

You catch what I call ‘comparinitis’.

And as you pour hours, days, weeks and sometimes months analysing everyone else, you’re paralysed and don’t take action at all.

Analysis paralysis can destroy you and your dreams if you let it take a hold.

It all stops you from taking your thinking and your business to that next level.

I met with a rockstar designer the other day who was paralysed by choice. It’s a dead easy trap to fall into these days with such a digital world, let’s just say.

It’s easy to keep burrowing deep down into a ton of different rabbit holes and get completely lost in choice.

Your business name. Your website. Your free offer. Products. Services. Hourly Rate. Social Media Platform. Blog. Newsletter. Platform. Developers. Marketing. Rates. Video. Clients. Messaging. Copywriters. Niche. Staff. Money. Freedom. Success. Arrghhh

No wonder business is only for the 1%.

But the one thing you really have to do?

Well you’ll just have to watch to find out…

Leave me a comment and let me know what you do when the dark analysis paralysis comparinitis cloud sets in.

And remember…

You were born for this.

Thanks Bianca! You’re so right. I sometimes sabotage myself by looking too much into other people’s sucesses and it just makes me wonder if I’m doing it all wrong just because I’m not doing the same. I’m so happy to hear that I’m not the only one! 😉 And that doing it different can be good.

I’m a little confused, was the webinar yesterday or is it tomorrow? I really want to watch it but I’m afraid I missed it 🙁

Awesome video! I just wanted to thank you for sharing your valuable words of encouragement. You’re effort and experiences are truly inspiring. I was at a place during the summer where I had a plan and was excited to be successful at it, but something happened during this current semester and my plans slipped through the cracks. Discipline is no joke! Thanks for that healthy reminder and motivating me to not give up.

    Keep up the great work!

    • You’re so welcome Christian! It’s easy to let things slip, if it were easy I think everyone would be in business. But the best thing is to just jump back on where you left off and put it down to a mere bump in the road. You never fail until you give up! And hey, thanks for listening, you make my dreams a reality by tuning in! I love this shit, I really do! 🙂
